Profile: Predicament between spouses. My husband doesnt follow the BS and I am still new to it. We are on BS5/6 technically. Our girls will be taken care of financially, but I would still like to compartmentalize their savings, thats why i say BS5/6..  We have zero debt other than mortgage. We have $67k in savings.

We have a rent house (mine paid off b4 marriage). We sold his house that was paid off b4 marriage and put it towards our home now. Please bare with me.

Predicament(s):

-we have a low interest rate so he is less worried about throwing $ at the house to pay off and would rather invest bc the savings account has a better return. I would rather have the security of a paid off house.

-he wants to sell the rental as is and invest. I Only work prn since having kids bc our jobs dont work with daycare hours (plus I love my job and love being very present with raising my girls so its really a great set up). I love the extra income from the rental since I work 1 day a week. He says he can invest and make that much monthly without the repairs/ins costs. I am just now having the house fixed from the hurricane. My husband wanted to sell it as is damaged roof, siding, missing porch, gutted room inside, half the fence missing. For $15k I am having it all fixed. I was paid that by the insurance and I was adamant over this issue. The $15k would give me minimum $30k more than as is condition according to an appraisal done like 8 years ago b4 remodels were even done inside and when the market was low.

-— idk if I want to sell. I like the security of the extra income and look at it as a 2nd job. Only working 1 day/week, I lost all my benefits, had a hefty drop in hourly pay, and its just enough for gas and groceries. I may make $500-$1000/mo. The rental brings in $850 but could honestly be more. The house will always be there to sell if it was ever necessary, but its also always there for any other worst case scenerio. My dad is getting older and has several health complications. It would be ideal for him to be closer to us (currently 2 hours away). Its also great to have something to leave to the kids. Its close to a great college, in a good school district, last house on a nice little dead end road.

Am I being sentimental with how I feel or smart from a financial stance?

Our savings is hefty but a good bit is for projects. Some necessary, some not. Id rather do the necessary and tackle the not necessary after house is paid off. Id like to open the girls a savings account and start something for school. Hed rather invest and leave them financially taken care of. Hed also rather drop $20k for a bathroom upgrade just to get a deeper tub bc he wants our house to feel nicer for us. Id rather do the upgrade ourselves bc we can and it would likely come out nicer bc our luck with contractors has been crap.  He also wants to redo the pool and go all out with upgrades, concrete a path to house and close in a boat shed to make it a work shed.

He hates that im repairing the rental and I hate that he wants to sell it like its a ridiculous notion to have a subpar house that you have to deal with.  I also hate that we have so much in savings and it could all be gone in an instant over house upgrades when our home isnt paid off. I want our home to be nice and feel good being in it, but id rather unnecessary things come after.

Before we dive into losing our savings, am I wrong for wanting to keep the rental? Should we just use our savings for making our home how we want it and sell the rental house to get that savings back and throw a good bit to the mortgage and work hard to pay off the house then?
