GameSurge restructuring announcement - 03/31/2009 -
Posted by Entrope
MILPITAS, CA -- The GameSurge Board of Directors has released the
following announcement:
In today's difficult economy, GameSurge has been coping with
declining revenues and rising costs due to increasing access
tariffs to network tubes. In addition to cutting back on planned
expansion, the network is taking the following cost-saving
actions, effective immediately:
Closing down our Antarctic server farm (Penguin1.UN.AA.GameSurge.net through Penguin5.UN.AA.GameSurge.net). The cost savings due to easy cooling is now outweighed by network data bottlenecks and the constant risk of computer racks "calving" off into the ocean.
The Board of Directors has agreed to serve for the 2009 calendar year with no direct or deferred compensation. In addition, other forms of executive compensation have been scaled down.
All support agents will receive a 20% reduction in salary. Selected agents will be offered early retirement packages, with up to 8 months of pay as a separation bonus.
Conformant ASCII characters will be sent using only 7 active bits, allowing up to 12.5% reduction in on-bit network bandwidth use compared to normal 8-bit (octet) traffic.
We are continuing to examine our ongoing operations for
additional efficiencies and expect to contact Federal regulators
to fully explore restructuring and ongoing liquidity options
relating to current industrial programs.

GameSurge is proud to bring you some awesome news: We just turned 5! But unlike your birthday (we hope, anyway), instead of you giving US presents, well, we're giving
YOU some! Sponsored by
Valve Software and
Razer no less!
We're having a little party on IRC in

Contest Details page for more information!
ClanShells delinked - 02/01/2009 -

ClanShells.DE.EU.GameSurge.net has decided to part company with us this week. I'd personally like to thank crazyiven, its admin, for the past 4.5 years of service to the network he's given. They'll both be missed. We've pointed their former DNS name at the EU server pool for the time being, but if you were using their server specifically to connect, you probably want to update your IRC client configuration.

New Chat Widget - 11/26/2008 -
Posted by ThiefMaster
Since today we have something new for those of you who do not use a real IRC client or like to connect to GameSurge from school or work:
The mibbit IRC widget which replaces the Java applet on
http://www.gamesurge.net/chat allows you to connect to GameSurge without using any ports but the regular http port (80) which is open almost everywhere.
Just in case you prefer the Java applet, it is still available at
http://www.gamesurge.net/javachat.
For those who want to add the widget to their website: either you can link the one on the GameSurge site and pass channels via the URL (/chat/CHANNELNAME; e.g. /chat/gamesurge for #gamesurge or /chat/CHANNELNAME/DEFAULTNICKNAME) or you can
embed the mibbit widget on your site. In this case you should set the server to
webirc.gamesurge.net:6007 so people connect with their real IP (otherwise they might get glined for excessive connections).
